God is not in America. Really? How so?
So, I was listening to the radio while working outside yesterday. Heard a Christian song that talked about getting God back into America, again. I understand the sentiments, but found the song puzzling on several other levels. Yes, Christians need to take a role in leadership in this country. I firmly believe that. But, all of the things the judges/courts/government tries to do, they can't keep God out. It's an impossibility. That implies that God is under our control and not the other way around. The song talked about the Ten Commandments in court houses, prayer in school, etc. See, no one can keep me from praying. That's the good thing about prayer. You don't have to close your eyes, get on your knees, genuflect and cross yourself for a prayer to be made. You can pray at any time in any position and still be assured God hears. The posture is not absolutely necessary for praying. I'm not saying that we shouldn't do those things, merely that prayer cannot be controlled. Then, as I've indicated before, because I'm weird, I took this a step further. Now, hang with me here. This is just a thought, but could it be that during the 1950's, when Christianity seemed to be the main stream, we (the Christians) pulled back from the hot pursuit of God? Things were easy back then. It was easy to be a Christian because church attendance was not only advocated but expected. Could it be that in being so Christian that we lost our sense of purpose? Finally, could it be that in "bringing God back to America again" we would actually abdicate our role as salt in a fallen world? Just a thought from a weird guy.
