Bless you!

Sitting in church yesterday, I heard someone sneeze several rows in front of me. This occurred during the middle of the preaching service. Now, I'm used to "amen's" and "yes" and different affirmatives directed at the minister, but rarely heard anything directed toward a fellow listener. The obligatory "Bless you" was spoken by the guy at the end of my row. See, here's the strange thing - why do we feel it necessary to "bless" someone who sneezes. I once had a fellow tell me on the phone, after I had sneezed, "I refuse to 'bless' you for sneezing. I'll wait until at the end of our conversation." And, he did. Yes, I know the heritage of the "bless you", but, come on, folks, let it go. If a person sneezes they are not really going to lose their souls nor will they take in any evil spirit because they sneezed. If you truly want to bless someone, you don't need to wait until they sneeze. Do it any time. Otherwise, you just confirm my point - that's weird. Well, I guess just blessing people is weird as well. Okay, then, to weirdness - God bless you!
