An explanation

Friends,

As you read this post, please understand I mean no harm to any person. Over the past year, I have started developing this thought and have played with it enough to want to post it. I realize there is a more politically correct way to say this, but, for humor's sake I am saying it my way. So, let me introduce my theory. Are you ready? Okay, here goes:

People are weird!

Yep, I said it. People are weird. I realize a better way to say this is that everyone is an individual. That's what makes us "special". However, what I'm pushing on is this thought of normalcy. What does it mean to be normal. Frankly, I don't know. Do you want to define normal? Okay, the dictionary defines it this way:

  1. Conforming to the standard or the common type; usual; not abnormal; regular; natural.
  2. Serving to establish a standard.
  3. Psychology.
    • Approximately average in any psychological trait, as intelligence, personality, or emotional adjustment.
    • Free from any mental disorder; sane.
(I must say, this very last point makes me laugh. Sane = normal? Ah, come on. Can't I be a little insane and still be normal? ;-) )

Yeah, but who establishes the standard? Who says psychology is right? I say I'm normal. But, others looking on might say I'm a little strange. For instance, I grew up without a TV. No, that in and of itself does not make me odd/strange/weird. But, my explanation for it does - at least a little. I would say that my church did not believe in it. Okay, what does that mean? Does that mean the church building had some humanlike characteristic that allowed it to think? Or, assuming that I meant the church leaders (which I did), does not believing in it mean that it does or doesn't exist, like UFOs? Just because I don't believe in them, does that mean they truly don't exist? So, bottom line, I'm just a little different. Believe me, I have plenty of proof for my own oddness. But what about you? Are you weird, too? Of course you are. Here's why. When I compare myself to you, something about you will make me scratch my head and say, "What's up with that?" In fact, if you're honest with yourself, you'll do the same thing as you look in your own mirror. You'll think, "Now, why did I say that?" Or, "Why did I do that?"

Further proof - as you live your life, just look around you. Be observant. Watch what other people do. In the end, I believe you'll say the same thing that I do - People are weird. This blog will be dedicated to support (humorously, of course) this theory.
